Biography
Dr. Smith graduated from BYU’s Construction Management program with his Bachelors Degree in 2003. After graduation, James worked in industry for seven years in Nevada and Utah, before returning to BYU for his master’s degree. He received his PhD in Architecture from Texas A&M University in 2013 after completing his dissertation entitled, “Trust-Building in the Construction Project Delivery Process: A Relational Lookahead Tool for Managing Trust”.
Research Interests
Dr Smith's research focuses on trust-building in the construction delivery process including sustainable relationships, alternative project delivery methods, interdisciplinary learning, lean construction, and an additional focus area in residential construction.Teaching Interests
At the undergraduate level, Dr. Smith teaches the Fundamentals of Construction and Facilities Management course and the Preconstruction course. Dr. Smith also teaches the Leadership in the Built Environment Course at the graduate level.Education
