Civil Engineering Intern for Central Utah Water Conservancy District

Central Utah Water is looking to fill civil engineering internship positions starting at the end of April 2025 (one position) and the end of August 2025 (two positions). We will be leaving this advertisement up until the available positions are filled.

The Central Utah Water Conservancy District (District) is looking to hire students, particularly those studying civil engineering and construction management, for Asset Management / Engineering internship positions. Ideal candidates would be able to begin a summer internship as early as April 28th, 2025 -or- a fall internship as early as August 25th, 2025. Interns will work from the District’s Orem office (1426 E 750 N) and will have opportunities to go into the field. Duties include:

• Collecting metadata for District infrastructure (e.g., locations, attributes, and media) and populating an electronic data registry

• Assisting civil engineers with project management responsibilities (e.g., drafting grant applications, preparing requests for proposals (RFPs), and reviewing contractor requests for information (RFIs) and submittals on active construction projects)

• Writing and editing technical documents with field operators and other full-time staff

You will work directly with the owner/project manager and will be involved in two core areas:

1. Sales Development / Lead Sourcing (SDR-style work)

• Use permit data and other sources to identify potential projects that match our target profile (custom homes, high-end residential, selective remodels).

2. Assistant Project Management / Field Operations Once jobs are secured, you’ll help manage day-to-day execution details, including:

• Jobsite check-ins and progress reporting (photos, notes, basic quality checks).
• Coordinating minor logistics with subcontractors (schedules, access, punch list items).
• Assisting with material runs (pick-up and delivery to job sites).
• Light jobsite cleanup and organization to keep projects presentable for clients and inspectors.

• Reliable personal vehicle suitable for visiting active construction sites (truck preferred; SUV acceptable).
• Valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance.
• Physically able to:
  
  • Lift and carry up to 100 lbs
  • Walk on active construction sites (uneven ground, stairs, etc.)
• Strong communication skills (comfortable calling and texting general contractors).
• Solid organizational skills: can track multiple jobs, leads, and follow-ups without dropping details.

• BYU / UVU CFM student (or similar program) with at least one prior construction-related job or internship.

• OSHA 10 or other safety training (or willingness to obtain).

Location

• Field-based position across: Utah, Wasatch, Summit, Salt Lake, Davis, and Weber counties.
• Home base is flexible; ideal candidates live somewhere along the Wasatch Front.

Work Schedule

• Preferably 20–30 hours per week, year-round or semester-based, depending on student availability.

• Most hours must overlap with normal business hours for calls and jobsite visits, but some can be done after hours.

POSITION SUMMARY: Interns will be mentored by project managers and will assist these project managers in all aspects of construction work.

DUTIES:

• Assist project managers in bidding, planning, and executing the work on various construction projects.
• Projects will include asphalt paving, concrete paving, micro-surfacing, chip seal, excavation grading, and utility work.
• Position may require night work.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Each applicant should be enrolled in an accredited civil engineering or construction management program at a sophomore level or higher.
