Utah Congressman (and Senator-Elect) John Curtis was a guest speaker for our freshman course CCE 102: Sustainable Infrastructure on Monday, November 25, 2024.
Earlier in the semester, several of the students attended the Conservative Climate Summit which was organized by Congressman John Curtis, held on October 4, 2024, at UVU. Congressman John Curtis leads the Conservative Caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives. He has been an important voice on climate policy, including on having meaningful dialogue to bridge the partisan divide on the climate change policy.
His district manager, Laurie Fowlke, graciously offered to come speak to our class. So it was a fun surprise when Congressman Curtis, his wife Sue Curtis, and Fowlke walked into the classroom this afternoon. Congressman Curtis shared tips for talking about controversial topics, including climate change with others that have different points of view. He also discussed opportunities for growth in infrastructure and clean energy.
In the class, students learn to evaluate infrastructure challenges and solutions from environmental, social, and economic perspectives. This includes engaging with guest speakers on critical issues of our day.
Thanks to Congressman John Curtis for coming to BYU!
